Butler Cross Country Teams Earn Academic Recognition

Eleven Bulldogs Earn Academic All-Horizon League Honors
Eleven Butler student-athletes from the fall sports were named Academic All-Horizon League for exceptional performance on the field and in the classroom. Butler had the most academic all-league performers, accounting for 22 percent of the leagues 50 honored student-athletes. The awards are a result of a balloting by the leagues faculty athletic representatives and sports information directors.

Andy Baker, Katie Clark Named Horizon League Cross Country Athletes of the Year
Butler distance standouts Andy Baker and Katie Clark were selected Horizon League Cross Country Athletes of the Year by a vote of league cross country coaches. It marked the third straight year that Baker has captured the leagues top individual honor, while Clark earned the award in her first season with the Bulldogs.

Butler Cross Country Season Ends At NCAA Meet
Butler runners Andy Baker and Madison Roeder closed out a successful cross country season for the Bulldogs at the 2009 NCAA Mens Cross Country Championship, hosted by Indiana State at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute on Monday (Nov. 23). The two Butler runners were among 250 competitors in the mens championship.

Madison Roeder, Andy Baker Earn NCAA Bids
Butlers duo of Madison Roeder and Andy Baker, who posted Top 10 individual finishes at the Great Lakes Regional Meet, have been selected to participate in the 2009 NCAA Mens Cross Country Championship on Nov. 23. The two were among 38 individuals chosen through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process.

Butler Men Place Fifth, Women Tenth At Great Lakes Regional
Junior Madison Roeder paced Butlers men with a seventh place individual finish and freshman Katie Clark led Butlers women with a 22nd place finish at the Great Lakes Regional Cross Country Meet, hosted by Indiana University on Saturday, Nov. 14. Butlers men placed fifth of 30 teams, while Butlers women came in 10th of 32 squads.

Bulldogs Begin Stretch Run At Horizon League Championship
Butler will begin the final and most important segment of its cross country campaign at the 2009 Horizon League Cross Country Championship on Saturday, Oct. 31. The league meet will held at Kensington Metropark in Milford, Mich., beginning with the mens championship race at 11 a.m. The womens championship will follow at noon.

Andy Baker Honored By Horizon League
Butler All-American Andy Baker, who again established himself as one of the top male runners in the nation at the ISU Pre-National Invitational, has been named Horizon League Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week for the period October 12-18. Its the third time this season hes been honored by the league.

Andy Baker Places Runner-Up At Pre-National Invitational
Senior Andy Baker turned in a strong individual performance and wound up finishing second in an elite field of runners at the Indiana State Pre-National Invitational at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute on Saturday (Oct. 17). Butlers men placed 13th in the competition, while Butlers women came in 19th.

Bulldogs Join Top Teams At Pre-Nationals Invitational
The Butler cross country teams will have a chance to run on the NCAA Division I National Meet course against some of the top teams in the nation at the 2009 Indiana State University Pre-Nationals Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 17). A total of 147 teams will gather for the competition at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute.

Senior Rob Mullett captured an individual title and freshman Katie Clark raced to a fifth place finish to lead Butlers cross country squad to a pair of Top 5 team finishes at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet, hosted by Indiana State University on Friday (Sept. 18). Butler placed third in the womens race and fourth in the mens competition in the state meet.

Head coach Matt Roe expects Butler to have a successful cross country season this fall, and the voters on the preseason national rankings apparently agree with him. Butlers men are ranked 20th in the U. S. Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Preseason Division I Cross Country Rankings released this week.

Butler Adds Nine Cross Country/Track Recruits
Butler cross country/track coach Matt Roe has added nine recruits to his 2009-10 mens and womens rosters and the incoming class figures to have an immediate impact on the Bulldogs successful distance program. The newcomers include eight top women, plus one talented male runner.
