Shelbi Burnett Named Academic All-District
Sophomore Shelbi Burnett, who had a break-out season on Butler’s cross country squad and a successful campaign with the Bulldogs’ track and field team, has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District V University Division Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team, chosen by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Butler distance standout was one of 16 student-athletes selected second team on the district honor squad.

Butler Track/Cross Country Adds Strong Recruiting Class
Butler’s already strong distance program received a boost for 2012-13 with the addition of a deep and talented recruiting class. Head coach Matt Roe signed five men and three women to join the Bulldogs this fall.

Butler sophomores Callum Hawkins and Shelbi Burnett have been named 2011 Horizon League Cross Country Athletes of the Year. The two Butler runners were chosen for the league’s top award by a vote of league cross country coaches.

Callum Hawkins Earns All-America Honors
Butler’s Callum Hawkins put the finishing touches on a brilliant sophomore campaign with an All-American performance at the NCAA Division I Men’s Cross Country Championship in Terre Haute on Monday, Nov. 21. The talented second-year athlete was one of two Butler runners competing in the national meet.

Callum Hawkins Earns Regional Honor
Butler sophomore Callum Hawkins has been named 2011 Men’s Athlete of the Year in the Great Lakes Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). He’s the first Butler athlete to receive the regional award, which has been presented since 2007.

Butler sophomore Callum Hawkins punched his ticket to the NCAA cross country national meet with a championship performance at the 2011 Great Lakes Region meet in Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday, Nov. 12. And teammate Ross Clarke will join him at the NCAA Championship in Terre Haute.

Bulldogs Head To Great Lakes Regional
The Butler men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete with other teams from the Midwest for a berth in the NCAA national meet when they run in the 2011 Great Lakes Region championship on Saturday, Nov. 12, at Ottawa Park in Toledo, Ohio. The men’s 10K race will begin at noon (ET), followed by the women’s 6K race at 1:15 p.m.

Butler Sweeps League Titles
For the 11th time in the past 14 years, Butler made a clean sweep of the Horizon League men’s and women’s cross country titles. Butler’s men captured their 14th title overall, while Butler’s women grabbed their 13th at the league championship hosted by Cleveland State on Saturday, Oct. 29.

Bulldogs Eye Horizon League Distance Titles
Butler will try to stretch a remarkable success run when it heads to Cleveland, Ohio, to participate in the 2011 Horizon League Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29. The league meet, being hosted by Cleveland State, will be held at Squire Valleevue Farm and will start with the women’s championship race at 11 a.m. (ET). The men’s championship race will follow at noon.

Butler sophomores Ross Clarke and Shelbi Burnett turned in strong individual performances at the Bradley Cross Country Classic, and both have been recognized by the Horizon League. Clarke was named league Male Runner of the Week and Burnett was tabbed the conference’s Female Runner of the Week, for the period October 10-16.

Ross Clarke Wins Bradley Classic
Sophomore Ross Clarke ran the seventh fastest time in meet history and claimed the individual championship at the Eighth Annual Bradley Cross Country Classic, which was held Friday, Oct. 14, in Peoria, Ill. Butler’s men placed ninth in the competition, while Butler’s women came in fourth.

Butler sophomore Callum Hawkins continued his push for national acclaim with another strong run on Friday, Sept. 30, at the 56th Annual Notre Dame Invitational. The Bulldogs placed 16th in the men’s competition and 22nd in the women’s race at the nationally-prominent meet.

Sophomore Callum Hawkins posted a “Top 10” individual finish and helped lead Butler to an 11th place team finish at the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota on Saturday (Sept. 24). North Carolina State won the 24-team meet.

Junior Lauren McKillop placed fourth in the individual standings and helped lead Butler to a runner-up team finish at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet, hosted by Indiana on Friday (Sept. 16). The Butler men’s team placed eighth at the state competition.

Butler assistant track/cross country coach Mason Cathey will represent the United States in an international competition at the Great North City Games in England on Saturday, Sept. 17. The event at Newcastle Gateshead, England, will match Great Britain and Northern Ireland against the USA.

Bulldogs Turn In Strong Performance At Illini Challenge
Butler’s women swept the top four individual spots and sophomore Callum Hawkins grabbed the overall runner-up position in the men’s competition to highlight a strong season-opening performance for the Bulldogs at the Illini Challenge on Friday (Sept. 2). Butler won the women’s race, while the Bulldogs finished second in the men’s competition.

Butler Women’s Track/C.C. Adds Versatile Recruit
Butler track and cross country coach Matt Roe added a top student and athlete to his 2011-12 roster with the signing of versatile Minnesota high school star Mara Olson. The St. Louis Park High School standout earned all-state honors in three sports and ranked No. 1 academically in her suburban Minneapolis high school class.
