Bulldogs Finish Second At Indiana Intercollegiate Meet
TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Sophomore Tom Curr finished third in the individual competition and Butler placed runner-up in the team race at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet, which was held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center on Friday (Sept. 14). Indiana captured the team title in the 27-team state meet.
Curr covered the 8K course in 24:57, trailing Indiana State's Al Escalera in second place by just three seconds. John Mascari of host Indiana State took the individual title in 24:42.
Butler had three additional runners place in the "Top 15" in the men's race. Sophomore James Martin crossed the finish line in 12th place with a time of 25:14. Freshman Erik Peterson came in 14th in 25:21, while sophomore Harry Ellis finished just one second behind in 15th place.
Junior Tom Anderson, running his first race with the Bulldogs, completed Butler's scoring unit with a 26th place finish in 25:44. Freshman Chris Kelsey (31st, 25:54) and sophomore Billy Klimczak (40th, 26:09) rounded out Butler's top seven. Senior Kevin Olblinger (26:13) and freshman Keigan Culler (26:14) also competed in the men's championship race.
Indiana posted a team score of 49 points to win the state competition, while Butler fionished with 70 points. Indiana State came in third with 79 points and Purdue was fourth with 92.
