Nationally-Ranked Bulldogs Earn Conference Honors
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Junior Katie Clark and freshman Olivia Pratt, who helped lift Butler into the national rankings this week, have been recognized by the Atlantic 10 Conference for their performances last weekend. Clark was named Atlantic 10 Women's Performer of the Week, while Pratt was tabbed Atlantic 10 Women's Rookie of the Week.
Clark won the individual title and led Butler to the team crown at the 14-team Toledo Bubble Buster, which featured four Top-25 ranked squads. The Butler distance ace covered the 4K course in 13:04, finishing 15 seconds ahead of runner-up Sara Pagano of No. 22 Syracuse. The race was Clark's first in more than a year. She sat out last season as a redshirt.
Pratt, who earned the league's weekly newcomer honor for the second time, came in fourth for the Bulldogs and 13th overall at the Toledo meet. She finished the 172-runner race in 13:36, just six seconds behind teammate Mara Olson in tenth place.
Fueled by four "Top 15" individual finishes, Butler placed ahead of #18 Toledo, #22 Syracuse, #23 San Francisco and #25 West Virginia in the team competition.
The strong performance at Toledo vaulted Butler into the "Top 25" in this week's USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country National Coaches' Poll. The Bulldogs, who weren't ranked previously, climbed to No. 21 in this week's poll. Butler's women also are ranked No. 3 in the Great Lakes Region, while Butler's men are seventh.
Butler's men and women both will be in action at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, Sept. 28.
