Bulldogs Head To Pre-National Meet
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The Butler men's and women's cross country teams will compete against some of the tops teams in the nation when they run in the 2012 NCAA Pre-National Meet on Saturday, Oct. 12. The meet, which features a number of nationally-ranked teams, will be held at E.P. 'Tom Sawyer' State Park in Louisville, Ky.
The Pre-National Meet will feature four races. The men's red seeded race will start the day at 9:30 a.m. (ET), followed by the women's red seeded race at 10:15 a.m. The men's black (unseeded) race will start at 10:45 am. and the women's black race will begin at 11:30 a.m.
Butler will be one of 40 teams entered in the men's red race and one of 39 squads competing in the women's red race. The men's competition includes six nationally-ranked teams, led by No. 3 BYU. The women's race features eight nationally-ranked squads, including top-ranked Florida State.
Competing for the Bulldogs in the men's race will be senior Kevin Oblinger, juniors Ross Clarke and Tom Anderson, sophomores Harry Ellis, Billy Klimczak and Kodi Mullins and freshman Erik Peterson. Sophomore Tom Curr, who was Butler's top runner at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet earlier this season, will not compete at the Pre-National Meet due to illness.
The Butler women's team, ranked No. 25 heading into the meet, will have seniors Lauren McKillop, Kaitlyn Love and Alyson Fosnot, juniors Katie Clark and Kirsty Legg, sophomore Mara Olson and freshmen Olivia Pratt competing. Sophomore Erica Carlson will run in the unseeded black race. Junior Shelbi Burnett, who was the Horizon League individual champ a year ago, will not be racing at Louisville.
Butler's men are back in action for the first time since Sept. 28, when then competed at the Notre Dame Invitational. The Butler women are returning to action for the first time since Sept. 21, when they won the Toledo Bubble Buster. Clark was the individual champ at the Toledo meet.
