INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- The Butler women's cross country team will begin the 2013 season with a "Top 30" national ranking.  The Bulldogs, coming off an appearance in the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship, were ranked No. 30 in the U. S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Preseason Division I Women's Poll.

Butler was one of four BIG EAST teams ranked in the "Top 30."  Providence, coming off a runner-up finish in last year's national championship, was tabbed No. 1 in the preseason poll, while Georgetown was ranked No. 6.  Villanova earned a No. 12 national rank.

The Bulldogs, led by All-American Katie Clark, are heading into their first season in the powerful BIG EAST.  Butler captured the Atlantic 10 Conference women's cross country championship a year ago, after racking up nine titles in the previous 10 years in the Horizon League.  The Bulldogs boast five athletes who have earned all-conference recognition in the A-10 and/or Horizon League.

Butler also will begin the season with a regional ranking for both men and women.  The Butler men are ranked seventh in the Great Lakes Region preseason poll, while Butler's women are ranked fourth.  Wisconsin is ranked No. 1 in the Great Lakes Region for men, while Michigan State holds the top spot for women.

Head Coach Matt Roe, beginning his seventh season with the Bulldogs, will unveil his men's and women's teams at the Bradley Classic on Sept. 6.
