Butler cross country coach Matt Roe will leave his women's team behind and head north this weekend with his men's squad to compete in the University of Wisconsin-Parkside's Midwest Collegiate Open in Kenosha, Wis. on Saturday, September 14. It will be the first 2013 competition for the Butler men.
While most of the men's team will travel to the meet, Roe only has six runners - Tom Anderson, Erik Peterson, Tom Curr, James Martin, Keigan Culler, and Chris Kelsey - officially committed to racing in the Wisconsin meet. But he says the lineup could easily change before the start of the race.
Notably, UW-Parkside's MCO is held at the same course on which the 2013 Big East Conference Championships will be held in early November, providing an excellent opportunity for the men to get better acquainted with the 8k (and regional and national championship) distance. The course is also the home of the Footlocker Midwest Regionals, the region's qualifier meet for the Footlocker National Championships, a premier high school meet in which a number of the MCO runners have previously participated.
Butler's men will toe the line at 11 a.m. (CT) Saturday while the women's team will remain in Indianapolis, preparing for the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet next weekend.
