MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. -- Butler placed three runners in the "Top 20" and raced to a third place finish at the nationally-prominent Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by Minnesota on Saturday (Sept. 28). The Bulldogs' strong showing left then ahead of four teams ranked in the "Top 30" of the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I national poll.
Junior Mara Olson and senior Katie Clark led the way with a pair of "Top 10" individual finishes. Olson covered the 6K course at Les Bolstad Golf Course in 20:58 and finished fourth overall, while Clark, a returning All-American, came in seventh in 21:03.
Junior Katie Good was the third Butler runner to cross the finish line, coming in 16th in 21:21. Senior Kirsty Legg placed 26th in 21:35, and sophomore Olivia Pratt completed the scoring unit with a 41st place finish i 21:58. Senior Sheli Burnett came in 80th in 22:28 and freshman Colleen Weatherford finished 92nd in 22:35.
Arizona, ranked fifth in the national poll, won the 28-team meet with 48 points, while Michigan State, ranked 12th, finished runner-up with 72 points. The Bulldogs posted a team total of 94 points and finished ahead of No. 19 Minnesota, No. 20 Vanderbilt, #21 North Carolina State and No. 26 Iowa State.
Shelby Houlihan of Arizona State captured the individual title in the meet, finishing with a time of 20:36.
Butler's women will be back in action at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, Oct. 4.
