Bulldogs Pick Up Wins At Illini Open

CHAMPAIGN, ILL. - Butler head coach Matt Roe rested his top runners, but the Bulldogs still had four individuals finish among the "Top 25" competitors in the women's race at the Illini Open, hosted by Illinois on Friday (Oct. 25).  Butler picked up three dual meet wins in the meet, which was a late addition to the Butler schedule.

Junior Erica Carlson led the Bulldogs and placed sixth overall in the field of 56 runnrs at the University of Illinois Arboretum.  She covered the 4,970 meter course in 18:36.  Freshman Maddie Westerhoff came in second for the Bulldogs and 15th overall in 18:58, while freshman Taylor Royalty placed 17th in 18:59.  Sophomore Samantha Turley was Butler's fourth runner in the "Top 25," finishing 21st in 19:03.

Sophomore Stephanie Hanagan rounded out Butler's scoring unit, placing 26th in 19:10.  Freshman Jennifer Schrock came in 50th in 20:15.

The Bulldogs picked up head-to-head victories over Bradley, Eastern Illinois and Illinois, while falling to Loyola and Northwestern.

Butler's full squad will return to action on Nov. 2 at the BIG EAST Championship in Kenosha, Wis.
