The Butler men's and women's cross country teams are headed to Sommers, Wis., this weekend for the Big East Conference Championships, to be held on November 2.  It will be the first championship competition in the new conference for any Butler team.

Marquette University will be hosting the meet at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course, with a number of national powers toeing the line on Saturday.

Always a tough conference in cross country, the Big East meet is stacked with powerhouses this year, especially on the women's side. Seventh-ranked Butler will be joined by Georgetown, ranked third in the nation, and Providence, fourth in the nation. Providence was national runner-up on the women's side in 2012, and Georgetown was the national champion in 2011. Unranked Villanova, the national champion in 2009 and 2010, will be in attendance as well. On the men's side, No. 19 Providence, No. 26 Villanova and No. 36 Butler are among the squads going head-to-head for the conference title.

The men's 8k championship race will start at 11 a.m. (CST) with the gun for the women's race going off at 11:50 a.m.

Butler, running in its first BIG EAST Championship, is seeking its 16th consecutive men's conference title.  The Bulldogs captured 14 straight Horizon League championships and then won the Atlantic 10 Conference title last year.  The Butler women have won 10 conference titles in the past 11 years, including last year's A-10 crown.
