Butler seniors Genni Gardner and Kent Wories both were honored by the Horizon League this week. Gardner was named Horizon League Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week and Wories was selected as the League's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
Gardner paced the Bulldogs in the Blue Race at the NCAA Pre-National Meet, hosted by Indiana State last weekend. She placed 36th overall in the field of 259 runners with a time of 21:04. The Blue Race featured 12 nationally-ranked teams, including top-ranked Stanford.
Wories led the Butler men's cross country team, while placing 33rd at the Bradley Classic. His 8K time of 25:47 was the second-best effort of his Butler career, and he finished as Butler's top runner for the first time this fall.
A finance major with a 3.965 grade point average, Wories has earned Academic All-League honors and has been named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. He's a Josten's Scholar-Athlete, and he's been named to the Butler Athletic Director's Honor Roll. He earned Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this fall.
