Butler head baseball coach Steve Farley has announced the Bulldogs' schedule for seven games in Winter Haven, Fla., during Spring Break. BU will play seven games against seven different teams over a period of seven days.
"It has been a few years since we've taken a Florida trip, so I'm excited for our team to be flying down there to play a good mix of DI opponents," Farley said. "We play seven games in seven days against teams from four different Division I conferences. Teams like Western Michigan, Akron, Bowling Green and Central Michigan are more familiar to us because they are in our region. The teams from the east coast (Fairfield, Lehigh and Sacred Heart) are less familiar to us, so it will be a good experience to play a variety of quality schools."
Butler opens the week on March 6 against Western Michigan, followed the next day with a contest vs. Lehigh. BU will face Bowling Green on March 8 before playing two games (Fairfield and Central Michigan) on March 9.
Butler has an off day on March 10 before finishing the trip vs. Sacred Heart (March 11) and Akron (March 12).
A total of 35 Division I teams will be involved in the Florida event. Games will be played at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven (former spring training home for Cleveland Indians) or Henley Field in Lakeland (former spring home for Detroit Tigers.)
