INDIANAPOLIS - Junior outfielder Corey Moylan smacked an RBI single to left in the top of the 8th to push the Butler baseball team past Marian University, 1-0, Tuesday afternoon. Five Bulldog pitchers combined for the shutout.
The two teams played to a scoreless duel through seven innings before BU broke through with two outs in the 8th. With two down and nobody on, junior Ryan Waggoner singled to center then fellow junior Luke Duncan walked. Moylan then pushed a 1-2 pitch into center to drive in Waggoner for the winning run.
Junior starter Jared Wagoner and sophomore Mike Hernandez each worked 3.0 innings. Both pitchers retired nine of 10 batters faced. Junior Dom Silvestri pitched the 7th and got credit for the win. Freshmen Jared Earle and Billy Laing also worked a scoreless inning each.
Waggoner and junior Kevin Crane each went 2-for-4 to lead the Bulldogs (4-6).
Butler, which just returned from a 2-3 trip to Florida, travels to Dayton Wednesday, March 17 at 3 p.m.
