CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Just one day after a 14-0 win, the Butler baseball team had its fortunes reversed at Big Ten foe Illinois Wednesday evening.
Illinois scored six runs in the 1st inning and had a 16-0 lead after six innings en route to a 19-0 victory over the Bulldogs. Despite the loss, Butler has still won six of its last eight.
Freshman Andrew Eckhardt led the Dawgs with two hits and a walk. The Bulldogs only managed four hits. Senior Kyle Schultz and junior Michael Letzter each had a double.
Six Butler pitchers saw action in the game, with freshman Jared Earle seeing the most success. Earle threw 1.1 innings in relief of starter Mike Hernandez.
Twelve different Illini players combined for 17 hits. Illinois had seven extra-base hits.
Butler (16-23) will return to Horizon League play this weekend with a three-game set at Valparaiso. Game one is Friday (May 7) afternoon.
