Butler Loses First Round Tourney Game
Valparaiso scored six runs in the bottom of the 5th inning and Valpo's Damon McCormick threw a shutout as the Butler baseball team dropped a 9-0 game to Valpo in the first round of the Horizon League Baseball Championship. Seniors Grant Fillipitch and Corey Moylan each had two hits to lead Butler.

5 Bulldogs Voted All-Horizon League
Five Butler baseball players have earned All-Horizon League recognition for the 2011 season. Four seniors - Michael Letzter, Grant Fillipitch, Luke Duncan and Dom Silvestri - all earned second-team honors. Freshman Patrick Guinane was voted to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team.

The start time for Butler's baseball game at Cincinnati on Tuesday, May 16, has been moved forward. The game, originally scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m., is now slated to begin at 5:15 p.m. (ET) at Marge Schott Stadium.

Bulldogs Fall In 13-12 Slugfest
Butler led 12-10 in the 9th inning but Cincinnati scored three runs in its last at-bat to edge the Butler baseball team, 13-12, Tuesday evening. The contest in southwest Ohio was Butler’s final non-conference game of the year.

Bulldogs Finish Week Undefeated
Baseball is a funny game. That statement was never more true for the Butler baseball team Sunday, as it played a pair of bizarre 7-inning games against Milwaukee at Bulldog Park. BU got a gem from junior Mike Hernandez for a 2-1 win before the two teams played into the day's rainy darkness. The end result was an 11-11 tie in the nightcap, which was called after seven innings.

The Butler baseball team picked up a pair of key league wins Friday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader at home against Youngstown State. BU won a 2-1 pitcher's duel in the first game and followed that with an exciting 8-6 win in the nightcap.

A home run by senior Corey Moylan came too late as the Butler baseball team dropped a 6-2 decision to Cleveland State on Mother's Day at Bulldog Park. Junior Griffin Richeson went 3-for-4 to lead BU in what will be the last time Butler and Cleveland State play in baseball.

Butler Edged By UIC
Senior Grant Fillipitch went 2-for-4 and Butler trailed just 2-1 in the 8th inning before UIC picked up a 5-1 win against the BU baseball team on Easter afternoon. Senior Jared Wagoner threw 7.0 strong innings but the Bulldogs could not get much against the Flames' pitching.

Butler had twice as many hits as UIC Saturday afternoon, but the Flames made the plays when they counted most as the BU baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader. UIC took the first game, 8-4, before getting an 8-7 win in the nightcap.

Bulldogs Cruise To Pair Of Non-League Wins
The Butler baseball team completed a three-game weekend sweep over Lawrence University Sunday, defeating the Vikings 11-0 in the first game and 14-3 in the finale. The Bulldogs held Lawrence scoreless for the first 21 innings of the series before the Vikings got three runs late in the third game.

Sophomore Kyle Kramp threw 5.0 shutout innings and seniors Grant Fillipitch, Corey Moylan and Michael Letzter combined for seven hits and seven RBIs in a 13-2 Butler baseball victory over Wabash. Letzter had three hits and Fillipitch and Moylan each added two hits as BU improved to .500 on the season.

Kyle Waggoner Tabbed Horizon League Player Of The Week
Senior outfielder Kyle Waggoner has been named Horizon League Player of the Week after batting .412 with seven RBIs over Butler's four games this past weekend. It is his first career weekly honor for Waggoner, who was selected to the league's all-newcomer team last spring.

The Dream Team, led by seniors Jared Wagoner, Jack Krause, Michael Letzter and Dom Silvestri, won Butler baseball's Ironman Challenge. The Dream Team defeated Team Swagmaster. Wagoner was the team's individual champion.

Baseball Tabs Throneburg As Pitching Coach
DJ Throneburg, who led Parkland College to national junior college championship in 2009, has been named pitching coach for the Butler baseball program. In addition to working with BU's pitching staff, Throneburg will also help with recruiting, scouting and practice organization.

Former Butler baseball standout Eric Storey has been hired as a volunteer assistant coach for the Bulldog baseball program. Storey was an all-conference player at BU before playing several seasons of professional baseball.

Butler baseball head coach Steve Farley has added three transfers this summer. Right-handed pitcher Jordan Goldschmidt, infielder Lucas Calderon and catcher Radley Haddad will join the program in the 2010-11 school year and will play during the 2012 season.
