INDIANAPOLIS - Sophomore Kyle Kramp threw 5.0 shutout innings and seniors Grant Fillipitch, Corey Moylan and Michael Letzter combined for seven hits and seven RBIs in a 13-2 Butler baseball victory over Wabash. Letzter had three hits and Fillipitch and Moylan each added two hits as BU improved to .500 on the season.
Fillipitch went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a walk on the day, while Moylan was 2-for-5 with two runs and a pair driven in. Letzter finished 3-for-3 with a walk. Junior Nick Hladek added a 2-for-4 effort with a home run and two walks.
Kramp (2-1) was in command from the start, scattering seven hits over five shutout frames. He struck out three and walked one. Four Bulldog relievers combined to allow just one earned run as BU cruised to the win over the Little Giants.
Letzter's RBI double in the bottom of the 1st gave Butler an early lead, and the Dawgs exploded for six runs in the 5th to take a 7-0 lead. A two-run single by Fillipitch and Hladek's solo homer to left were the big blows in the inning.
Leading 7-2, the Bulldogs struck for five runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. The inning started with two walks and a bunt single by junior Mike Hoscheit. With two outs, sophomore Andrew Eckhardt smacked an RBI single up the middle and Moylan followed with a two-run double. Fillipitch's RBI single would give BU a 12-2 lead.
Senior Luke Duncan added a pinch-hit RBI single in the 8th to provide the final margin. Butler ended the day with 14 hits and 15 walks.
Butler (10-10) will travel to Milwaukee for a weekend series April 1-2. UWM is the defending Horizon League tourney champ.
