Bulldogs Shut Out Lawrence, 7-0

INDIANAPOLIS - Senior Dom Silvestri threw 7.0 shutout innings and senior Grant Fillipitch went 3-for-5 to lead the Butler baseball team to a 7-0 win over Lawrence University Saturday afternoon. Freshman Patrick Guinane went 2-for-4 with a triple and drove in three runs.
With gray skies and winds swirling, the Bulldogs cruised to a win over the NCAA Division III Vikings from Appleton, Wis. BU scored three runs in the bottom of the 3rd and added four more in the 4th for all of the day's scoring.
Silvestri (3-2) allowed just three hits and two walks in an efficient day's work. He struck out eight. Junior Brad Schnitzer pitched the last two frames. No Viking reached third base on the day.
Butler got on the board went sophomore Andrew Eckhardt singled and stole second. He scored moments later on a single to right-center by Fillipitch. After Fillipitch moved to second on a wild pitch, sophomore Pat Gelwicks smacked an RBI single up the middle. Guinane then tripled deep to left-center, scoring Gelwicks and giving Butler a 3-0 lead.
Guinane added a two-run single to left in the bottom of the 4th as the Bulldogs pulled away. Base hits by Fillipitch and senior Luke Duncan and a Gelwicks walk set the stage with two outs. Juinor Mike Hoscheit walked to drive in a run, making BU's lead 5-0. Guinane then drove in Fillipitch and Gelwicks to finish the day's scoring.
Butler (13-16) is scheduled to play doubleheader (two 7-inning games) vs. Lawrence Sunday, April 17, weather pending. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. Keep on ButlerSports.com for updates.
