Butler baseball alum Pat Neshek, who has played part of four seasons with the Minnesota Twins, has been claimed off waivers by the San Diego Padres. Neshek pitched for Butler during the 2000-02 seasons.
Neshek, who holds Butler's career strikeouts record, was 11-6 with a 3.05 ERA in 132 relief appearances for the Twins from 2006-10. He had 151 strikeouts, averaging 1.16 strikeouts per inning pitched. Neshek had a 4.26 ERA with five strikeouts in six relief appearances for the Twins this spring. His best season in Minnesota was 2007, when we went 7-2 with a 2.94 ERA. He posted a 2.19 in 2006 and pitched in the American League Divisional Series against Oakland.
After three seasons with Butler and head coach Steve Farley, Neshek was drafted in the sixth round of the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft (182nd overall). He also holds Butler's record for strikeouts in a single game (18 vs. Detroit, 4/15/01) and a single season (118 in 2001).
