INDIANAPOLIS - Junior infielder Bob Akin was named Horizon League Batter of the Week after his weekend performance at Fresno State. It is the first career honor for Akin.
Akin, a native of Carmel, Ind., batted 6-for-13 (.462) during BU's four-game series at Fresno State. His six hits led the team and his batting average was second to junior teammate Pat Gelwicks (.500).
Akin had a 3-for-4 effort in the third game of the series on Saturday. He followed that with a 2-for-4 day in Sunday's series finale. All six of Akin's hits were singles. He also had an RBI and scored a run.
In what head coach Steve Farley called a "top 3 win in program history," the Bulldogs defeated Fresno State 12-9 in the weekend's second game. FSU, the 2008 College World Series champion, won three of four over the weekend.
Along with Akin, Valparaiso's Tyler Deetjen was honored with the league's weekly pitching award.
Butler (1-3) will play at UT-Martin Feb. 25-26.
