Bulldogs Heading To Nashville For Three-Game Series

A week after playing three games at UT-Martin, the Butler baseball team will go back to Tennessee for a three-game set at Belmont. The Bulldogs will play the Bruins twice Saturday, March 3 and once on Sunday.
The Bulldogs enter this weekend's series at Belmont after a 1-2 weekend at UT-Martin. BU finished the weekend with a 12-5 win over the Skyhawks. Jimmy Risi swatted two home runs in that game, two of Butler's four home runs in that game. Ryan Wojciechowski and Lucas Calderon also homered in the Butler win.
Pat Gelwicks and Radley Haddad have been Butler's top hitters so far this season. Gelwicks is batting .375 and has a team-leading nine hits. Haddad is hitting .381 after going 5-for-11 during last weekend's series at UTM. Mike Hernandez, despite an 0-2 record, has been solid as BU's Friday starter. He has pitched 6.0 innings in each of hits two starts and owns a 3.75 ERA. In relief, lefty Brad Schnitzer has not allowed an earned run over 6.1 innings of work. He owns a 1-0 record with seven strikeouts against just one walk.
Belmont enters after defeating Southern Illinois 14-7 on Feb. 29. Belmont, which is 4-4 on the year, has yet to play away from home. The Bruins' first 13 games are set for Rose Park. Belmont's leading hitter Zac Mitchell (.409, 4 RBIs). James Buckelew, who is scheduled to start Sunday's game, has been Belmont's top starting pitcher. Buckelew is 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA over 11.0 innings of work.
After the series at Belmont, Butler will play its home opener vs. Dayton Tuesday, March 6. IPFW comes to Bulldog Park for a four-game set March 9-11.
