MILWAUKEE - Senior Mike Hoscheit went 2-for-3 and scored both of Butler's runs as the Butler baseball team lost 14-2 at Milwaukee on Thursday. It was the first time this season Butler has lost a league series opener.
With Butler trailing 1-0 in the top of the 2nd inning, Hoscheit doubled and scored on an RBI single by freshman Michael Fries. Hoscheit singled and scored on a wild pitch in the 4th.
Fries not only had Butler's lone RBI of the day, but he also made a highlight-reel catch in left.
Butler, which entered the weekend ranked first in the Horizon League in runs, hits, home runs, total bases and on-base percentage, was stifled by UWM's Eric Semmelhack. The Panther starter allowed two runs on four hits over 7.0 innings and struck out eight. Offensively, Milwaukee pounded out 20 hits. Jonathan Capasso went 4-for-6 with two RBIs. Three other UWM players had three hits each.
Four of the five runs charged to senior starter Dom Silvestri were unearned. Those four runs came in a in the bottom of the 3rd, when Butler committed two errors. Three BU relievers combined to allow nine earned runs.
Butler and Milwaukee will play two more games this weekend at Henry Aaron Park. Friday's game is set for a 4 p.m. ET (3 local) start.
