The Bulldog baseball team continued its fall season with a 7-5 win over Parkland Junior College Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Park. The 12-inning exhibition was the last game until Butler's intrasquad World Series starts next weekend.
Butler was led offensively by four hitters who contributed an extra-base hit. Senior Griffin Richeson hit a triple and three players who were not active in 2011 - Lucas Calderon, Ryan Wojciechowski and Austin Miller - all doubled.
Butler used nine different pitchers, and the pitching staff showed excellent control. BU hurlers struck out 10 over 12 innings of work, walking just one and scattering seven hits.
"Parkland has an outstanding team, so it was great competition for us," head coach Steve Farley said. "Our pitchers really pounded the strike zone and we made the plays we needed to make on defense."
Farley cited a fast pace of play this fall. Each of Butler's 12-inning fall exhibitions has been completed in less than three hours.
"We play a fast-paced, hustling brand of baseball and I think our parents and fans have really enjoyed watching the games," the Butler coach said.
Butler's World Series, an intrasquad series that culminates the team's fall season, will begin with Game 1 Friday, Oct. 7 at 3:45 p.m. Game 2 will start the next morning at 10:45 a.m.
