Butler Baseball All-Star Roundup
Three baseball players with Butler University ties represented the Bulldogs recently with all-star game performances. Returning senior Austin Miller was honored as the Hamptons League All-Star Game MVP while incoming recruit Tyler Houston was awarded the Indiana North/South All-Star Series MVP trophy.

Former Bulldog Pitcher Pat Neshek Selected to MLB All-Star Roster
St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher and Butler baseball alum Pat Neshek will be making his first trip to the MLB All-Star game this summer after being selected to represent the National League by his manager Mike Matheny. The 2014 MLB All-Star Game will be held in Minnesota on Tuesday, July 15 with first pitch slated for 7:30 p.m.

Butler left-handed pitcher Jeff Schank has been named to the Valley Baseball League All-Star game after going 3-0 with a 1.70 ERA in the first half of the summer league season.

Baseball Expands Incoming Recruiting Class
Head Coach Steve Farley is happy to announce the addition of two more student-athletes to the Butler baseball roster. Cole Malloy and Chris Myjak have each signed with the Bulldogs giving Butler two more weapons for the upcoming 2015 season.

Royals Select Stout in MLB Draft
Junior left-handed pitcher Eric Stout was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 13th round (393rd overall) of the 2014 MLB Draft over the weekend. Stout became the first Bulldog to be picked by a big league team since RHP Pat Neshek, who was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the sixth round of the 2002 amateur draft.

Gunner Johnson Earns BIG EAST Honor
Gunner Johnson has been named Second Team All-BIG EAST as announced by the conference office on May 19. The senior left-hander earned the recognition after a vote from the league coaches. A total of eight pitchers were honored with four making the first team and four receiving votes for second team.

Bulldogs End Regular Season with DH Split at Villanova
The Butler baseball team ended the 2014 regular season by splitting a doubleheader at Villanova on Saturday afternoon. BU won the first game 4-2, but fell in game two 3-2. With the loss, the Bulldogs were eliminated from postseason play as they came up one game short of Xavier for the No. 4 seed.

Bulldogs Stay Alive with 11-8 Win at Villanova
Postseason hopes are still alive for the Butler baseball team as the Bulldogs held off Villanova to earn an 11-8 win at Villanova Ballpark on Thursday afternoon. An early 6-0 lead for BU quickly faded away as the Wildcats pushed all eight of their runs across home plate in the final stages of the game. The Bulldogs were able to respond with five runs in the final three innings to win the game.

The baseball game slated for this afternoon between Butler and Eastern Illinois has been cancelled due to the high percentage of rain expected to fall in the area. Butler will now finish the regular season with a three-game road series at Villanova.

A Georgetown grand slam in the third inning put the Hoyas in the driver’s seat and Butler wasn’t able to recover as the Bulldogs dropped game two of the weekend series vs. Georgetown 8-3. The final matchup between the two programs will take place tomorrow at 12 p.m.

The Butler baseball team was defeated by Georgetown on Friday afternoon by the final score of 5-2. Steve Anderson led the charge for the Hoyas with a 4-for-5 effort from the plate that included two doubles, an RBI single and a solo home run.

Bulldogs Take Road Loss at Northern Kentucky
Northern Kentucky Head Coach Todd Asalon recorded career win No. 600 on Wednesday afternoon as the Norse defeated the Bulldogs by the final score of 12-6. The high scoring contest featured 15 hits from the home team and 10 from the ‘Dogs. Sloppy play was a factor with BU committing five errors on the day with the Norse tallying four.

Butler Defeats Kalamazoo in Rain-Shortened Game
The Bulldogs were able to score eight runs in just five innings to defeat the Kalamazoo Hornets on Tuesday afternoon by the final score of 8-2. Heavy rain ended the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning and with a wet forecast setting in for the rest of the night, the two teams were forced to call the action.

Creighton Takes Saturday Doubleheader over Butler
Butler came up short on Saturday afternoon as the Creighton Bluejays swept the weekend series with a pair of wins during today’s doubleheader. Creighton scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning in game one to pull out a 2-1 victory and the day would come to a close with a 4-2 setback in the nightcap.

Xavier Avoids Sweep with Saturday Win over Butler
Butler was unable to complete the three-game sweep against Xavier as the Musketeers recorded a 16-2 win over the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. Xavier opened the game with seven runs through the first four innings of action and a nine-run fifth-inning would end Butler’s chances at the sweep.

Bulldogs Take Game Two over Xavier 2-1
A two-RBI single from Quincy Quintero in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Butler a 2-1 victory over Xavier on Friday afternoon. The Musketeers held a 1-0 lead for a majority of the game, but Billy Laing kept the Bulldogs within striking distance with a great outing on the mound. Laing chalked up the win, while Eric Stout came in for his first save of the season.

The Butler Bulldogs handed Xavier their first BIG EAST loss of the season after defeating the Musketeers 8-0 in the first game of a three-game series. Gunner Johnson was once again lights out on the mound for Butler throwing eight innings of scoreless baseball.

A six-run fourth inning allowed St. John’s to defeat Butler on Sunday afternoon as Bret Dennis belted a grand slam over the wall to break a 2-2 tie. Butler attempted a comeback with four runs in the top of the sixth inning highlighted by an RBI single from Ryan Wojciechowski, but the offensive production wasn’t enough as St. John’s completed the series sweep with a 9-7 win.

The win was the fourth straight for the Bulldogs, who improved to 5-7 on the year.

Baseball Splits a Pair Opening Weekend
Winter weather conditions in the Cary, N.C. area cancelled the action that Butler had planned on participating in this weekend, yet Head Coach Steve Farley and the Bulldogs were able to find an opponent in Illinois State. The two teams played at E.S. Rose Park in Nashville, Tenn. Illinois State won the first game 9-1, but the Bulldogs evened their record with a 7-6 win on Sunday.

Stout Earns Preseason All-BIG EAST Recognition
The conference office has officially announced that junior Eric Stout has been named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST team as voted on by the league’s head coaches. Stout will return to the mound in 2014 after leading the team in multiple categories during the ’13 season.

Farley Announces 2014 Baseball Schedule
The Butler baseball program will join the BIG EAST conference for the 2014 season after posting a 25-27 record one year ago in the Atlantic 10. The Bulldogs return A-10 All-Rookie Team selection Mike Kseniak to the lineup in hopes of making the BIG EAST Conference Tournament which will be held in Brooklyn N.Y. from May 21-25.

Pobereyko Reflects on Midwest Collegiate League
When Bishop Noll graduates Matt and Danny Pobereyko pitched for the Northwest Indiana Oilmen in 2013, they became the first brothers to play together with the team. The duo will be back in 2014 as the team has announced that both will once again call Oil City Stadium home starting in late May.
