Lexington, Ky. - The Butler baseball team ran into a tough foe in its season-opening contest, as host No. 17 Kentucky tallied 14 runs before the Bulldogs broke the shut-out in a 14-1 defeat on Friday (Feb. 29) afternoon at Cliff Hagen Stadium.
The Wildcats jumped for 16 hits in the contest, including six for extra bases, in improving to 6-0 on the year.
Freshman Luke Duncan plated the Bulldogs' lone run of the game in the ninth, singling to lead off the frame, taking second and third on successive wild pitches and coming home on a fielding error.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday (March 1) when they battle Kentucky in a double-header beginning at 12:00 noon.
