Manhattan, Kan. - Kansas State staked itself to a 10-0 lead through the first five innings and would not look back, as Butler dropped a 13-2 contest at the hands of the Wildcats in the series finale on Sunday (March 15) afternoon at Tointon Stadium.
After scoring single runs in the first and second innings, KSU jumped for five runs - including four unearned - on five hits and two Bulldog errors in pushing ahead to a 7-0 advantage. The Wildcats added to the difference in the fifth, as picking up three more runs on three hits.
Butler would break up the shut-out in the eighth, as Colin Ziegel roped a one-out RBI double to center that scored Griffin Richeson from third before Mike Hoscheit picked up an RBI of his own on a sacrifice fly that plated Alex Montagano.
It would be as close as the Bulldogs would get, however, as Kansas State added three runs in their half of the frame.
Ziegel finished with three of Butler's six hits in the game, including a pair of doubles.
Butler heads to Terre Haute, Ind., on Wednesday (March 18) when it takes on Indiana State beginning at 3:00 p.m.
