Valparaiso Trips Up Bulldogs, 14-1

Indianapolis, Ind. - A six-run third inning by Valparaiso would be all it would need, as the Crusaders held the Butler bats in check with just three hits in claiming a 14-1 decision at Bulldog Park in the Horizon League opener on Friday (March 20) afternoon at Bulldog Park.

Valpo picked up five hits and took advantage of a Butler error in the inning to break open a scoreless tie through the first two frames.

Butler claimed one back in its half of the inning, as Steve Kaffel hit a one-out sacrifice fly to right with the bases loaded to plate Rick Betsch from third.

It would be the Bulldogs' only run of the game, however, as the Crusaders would allow just one hit over the final six innings to cruise to the win.

Butler and Valparaiso will conclude the three-game series on Saturday (March 21) with a double-header beginning at 12:00 noon at Bulldog Park.
