Louisville, Ky. - A first-inning run by Butler would not be enough, as host Louisville plated eight unanswered in rolling to an 8-1 non-league win on Wednesday (May 7) afternoon at Patterson Stadium.
Colin Ziegel would lead off the contest with a triple to center, his team-leading third of the year, before being forced at the plate on a grounder by Grant Fillipitch. A wild pitch would move Fillipitch to second before Kyle Schultz roped an RBI single up the middle for a quick 1-0 Bulldog lead.
The Cardinals brought the game back to even in the second on an unearned run before taking the lead for good after plating two runs in the third on a two-out single and a wild pitch.
Meanwhile, Louisville would hold the Bulldogs to just three hits over the final eight frames in claiming the decision.
Joe Ochs earned the start and worked a scoreless opening frame while extending his streak of consecutive innings without an earned run to 26.2-straight. Jared Wagnoer tossed a scoreless fifth inning, while Tyler Tepe held the Cardinals hitless in the seventh.
Butler returns to action on Saturday (May 10) when it heads to Milwaukee for a double-header against the Panthers beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET.
