Indianapolis, Ind. - Butler wrapped up its fall intersquad season this weekend, as the Bulldogs claimed a 5-2 victory over visiting Vincennes on Saturday (Oct. 4) afternoon at Bulldog Park.
Sophomore Steve Darragh led the way on offense with three hits while the Butler pitching staff, led by solid outings from Ryan Kruszka, Joe Ochs, Chris Denney and Mike Hernandez, threw 66 percent of its pitches for strikes while limiting their walks allowed.
Butler held a slim 3-2 margin late in the contest before capitalizing on three Vincennes errors to play two unearned runs for some insurance.
In addition to the victory on the field, the Butler baseball program also had a successful afternoon with its annual Alumni Day, as over 20 former Bulldogs from four decades returned to take pre-game batting practice with the current squad and enjoyed a cook-out during the contest.
The Bulldogs return to action this week when it kicks off the annual Butler World Series, which features a best-of-three split-squad series at Bulldog Park. The series begins with Game One on Wednesday (Oct. 8), Game Two on Saturday (Oct. 11) and Game Three - if necessary - on Sunday (Oct. 12).
Parents, fans and alumni are also invited to the annual "Long Ball In The Fall" Fundraiser, which concludes the fall season on Oct. 25 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Bulldog Park.
