Indianapolis, Ind. - After providing the Bulldogs with one of the top offensive duos in the league, senior shortstop Joe Pauley and junior outfielder Colin Ziegel have been named to the 2008 All-Horizon League Second Team. The conference office made the announcement on Monday (May 19).
The Horizon League leader with 12 home runs this season, Pauley receives his third career mention on the all-league squad after earning first-team honors as a sophomore and second-team recognition as a freshman.
The Skokie, Ill., native boasts a .366 batting average and a team-high .774 slugging percentage in conference play, while his 36 runs scored and 41 RBI pace the team. He etched his name in the school record book after tying single-game marks with three home runs and 13 total bases against Valparaiso on April 26, and is just 10 runs shy of tying the school's all-time scoring record with 140 in his career.
Ziegel, meanwhile, gets his first career all-league nod after putting up equally gaudy offensive numbers in conference play.
A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., he leads the squad with a .391 batting average and a .436 on base percentage while touting a .759 slugging percentage against league foes thanks to six home runs and a team-high three triples and eight doubles. He also boasts a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage as the team's regular right fielder while recording 66 put-outs on the year.
Seventh-seeded Butler opens up the 2008 Horizon League Championship on Tuesday (May 20) when it takes on No. 6 Valparaiso beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Eastwood Field in Niles, Ohio.
