Butler Teammates To Meet At World Championship
RIGA, LATVIA -- Future Butler teammates Khyle Marshall and
Jackson Aldridge will face each other in the
consolation finals at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Riga,
Latvia, on Sunday, July 10. Each helped lead his team to a
victory in the consolation semifinals on Saturday, July 9.
Marshall scored six points and grabbed five rebounds to help the
USA defeat Poland, 84-47. All 12 U.S. players cracked the
scoring column in the one-sided win, led by the 19-point
performance of Doug McDermott (Creighton). Patric Young
(Florida) added 13, while Jeremy Lamb (Connecticut) and Meyers
Leonard (Illinois) each finished with 12.
“It shows that if we just play together and play defense,
great things can happen,” said Marshall in a USA Basketball
release. “As a result, we won by 30 plus points, and
that just showed this team could be really good if just all play
together, play defense, play together as one team.”
The U.S. will need a similar effort against Australia in the fifth
place game. Aldridge, who will be a freshman at Butler this
fall, posted eight points, four assists and three rebounds as
Australia defeated Croatia, 90-63.
Australia and the U.S. both enter the fifth place game with 6-2
records at the World Championship.
