Kellen Dunham Earns A-10 Honor
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Freshman Kellen Dunham had an impressive debut at Butler, and his performance earned him Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week honors. The weekly award, for games played Nov. 9-11, was released by the conference office on Monday (Nov. 12).
Dunham came off the bench and scored 18 points to help lead Butler to a 74-59 victory over visiting Elon in the Opening Game of the 2012 EA Sports Maui Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 10). He hit five of 10 shots from the floor, including three of eight from beyond the three-point arc, and all five of his free throw attempts. The 6-6 guard also added three assists and a steal in the victory.
Dunham's 18 points set a school mark for most points by a freshman in his first Butler game. The previous mark was 16 points by Jermaine Guice against Western Illinois in 1990.
Dee Davis, who had 22 points and 15 assists in Xavier's season-opening victory over Fairleigh Dickinson, was named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week.
Butler will be one of 22 teams participating in the ESPN Tip-Off Marathon, 24 hours of basketball, on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The Bulldogs will face Xavier at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, at 4 p.m.
