Andrew Smith Sidelined This Week
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Senior Andrew Smith suffered an injury in Butler's 59-56 victory at George Washington on Saturday (Feb. 9) and received medical treatment when the team returned to Indianapolis. He will be sidelined this week and will be re-evaluated next week.
Smith was inadvertently struck in the abdomen during a scramble for a loose ball in the Atlantic 10 Conference game. He continued to play, but later indicated discomfort to the Butler athletic training staff. Further examination revealed the need for medical treatment.
Smith, who had six points and five rebounds, before fouling out in the Bulldogs' win at George Washington, is Butler's second-leading scorer (11.4 ppg) and rebounder (5.4 rpg). The 6-11 center became the 34th Butler player to score 1,000 career points in Butler's win over Rhode Island on Feb. 2, and he currently stands 32nd on the school's all-time scoring list. He has started 91 of Butler's last 93 games, including both games at the 2011 Final Four.
Butler hosts Charlotte on Wednesday, Feb. 13, before visiting Fordham on Saturday, Feb. 16.
