Grant Hunter Named To Preseason All-America Squad
Butler defensive end Grant Hunter has been
named to the second team of the 2009 Football Championship
Subdivision Preseason All-America Team by Phil Steele’s ACC
& Big East Football 2009 Preview magazine. Hunter was the
lone player from the Pioneer Football League named to the 56-player
honor squad.
Hunter, who played his first season with the Bulldogs last fall
after transferring from Robert Morris, was a first team All-Pioneer
Football League defensive end in 2008. He led the PFL in
quarterback sacks with 14, the second-highest single season total
in Butler football history. He finished second in the league
in tackles for loss (18), and he wound up sixth on the team in
total tackles (42).
The 6-3, 230-pound defensive lineman started all 11 games in his
first season at Butler. He was named Butler’s Defensive
Top Dog (MVP, picked as the Bulldogs’ Lineman of the Year and
was tabbed as the team’s Newcomer of the Year.
Hunter is one of 16 starters returning from last year’s
Butler squad, which posted a 6-5 record and finished in a tie for
fourth place in the PFL. The six victories were the most by a
Butler football squad since 1997. The Bulldogs will report
for fall camp on Monday, August 10, to begin preparing for the
team’s season-opener at home against Albion on Sept. 5.
