Blue-White Spring Game Set For Saturday, April 21
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler will wrap up four weeks of spring
football drills with the annual Blue-White Spring Game on Saturday,
April 21. The concluding event for the spring season, the
game will kickoff at 10 a.m., at the Butler Bowl.
The spring game will match Butler’s offensive unit against
the Bulldogs’ defensive crew under a special modified scoring
system. Offensive touchdowns, extra-points and two-point
conversions will remain normal. Field goals of 1-10 yards
will count for one point, 11-20 yards two points and 21+ yards
three points. All field goals with less than two minutes
remaining in a half count three points.
In addition, the offense scores points for first downs (1), pass
plays of 25-plus yards (2), runs of 15-plus yards (2) and
fourth-down conversions (2).
The defensive squad receives points for a takeaway (3), defensive
takeaway and touchdown (9), blocked/missed PAT (1), failed
offensive two-point conversion (1), defensive two-point conversion
(2), three-and-out (3), defensive stop-no TD or made FG on a drive
(1), quarterback sack (2), tackle-for-loss (2) and fourth down stop
(2).
The game will be played in 15 minute quarters with a running
clock.
Butler head coach Jeff Voris has 31 letterwinners, including nine
starters, on hand from last year’s 5-6 squad. Included
among the returnees are All-Pioneer Football League performers
Jordan Ridley (LB), Trae Heeter (RB), Matt Jenson (TE), Matt Storey
(OL), Jay Howard (OL) and Sean Grady (DB). Ridley led the PFL
in tackles for a second consecutive year last season, while Heeter
was Butler’s leading rusher. Grady tied for the team
lead in pass interceptions (3), while Jenson finished fourth on the
squad in touchdown catches (4). Storey and Howard were
starters in all 11 games last fall.
