Football Dawgs Help Out At Gleaners Food Bank
One in every eight Indiana residents goes hungry. The Butler football team rallied to do something about this problem, spending an afternoon at Gleaners Food Bank on the south side of Indianapolis.
Thirty players and three assistant coaches went to the Gleaners facility and took part in a program called Back Sacks Weekend Food For Kids. The program feeds 6,000 kids per week across 21 Indiana counties. When low-income children leave school on a Friday, they receive a sack of food for the weekend. The children served are grades K-6.
Community service is one of the three core values for the football program, along with academics and committing to being a Division I football player. The Bulldogs do several service events each semester.
