Butler Completes 2012 Football Staff
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler head football coach Jeff Voris has
his coaching staff set for the 2012 campaign. The
seventh-year Butler coach announced the hiring of three assistant
coaches to fill openings on his staff.
Joining the Bulldogs for the upcoming season are Patrick Doherty,
who will work with the Bulldogs’ running backs; Andrew Doan,
who will coach defensive ends, and Jerome Riase, who will be in
charge of the team’s defensive tackles. The trio
replaces departed coaches Andrew Belluomini, Colin Johnson and Rob
Noel.
Doherty spent the past four seasons as a student assistant coach at
Franklin College. He worked with the team’s running
backs, tight ends and quarterbacks during his time with the
Grizzlies and helped the Division III squad to a four-year, 37-9
record, three conference championships and three NCAA playoff
appearances. He earned his degree from Franklin in May.
Doan is a former three-time All-Pioneer Football League performer
at Morehead State University. A stalwart defensive end, he
led the Eagles in quarterback sacks as a senior and finished his
collegiate career with 18.5 quarterback sacks and 41.5 tackles for
loss. Doan earned a B.S. degree from Morehead State in 2010,
and he’s currently working on a Master’s Degree in
Clinical Psychology.
Riase, who boasts eight years of football coaching experience,
joins the Bulldogs after spending four seasons on the football
staff at Ashland (Ohio) University. He served as defensive
line coach for the Eagles and worked with 10 All-Conference
linemen, including one Division II All-American. Riase, who
also coached at Savannah State and at Central State, earned a
Bachelor’s Degree from Miami (Ohio) University.
The three new Butler coaches will join a Butler staff that includes
Co-Defensive Coordinators Joe Cheshire and Tim Cooper, Co-Offensive
Coordinator Kyle Conner, wide receivers coach Kenan Smith, tight
ends coach Nick Anderson and defensive student assistant Grant
Lewis.
The Bulldogs will begin fall camp for the 2012 season in
August. The season-opener will be at Western Illinois on
August 30, with Butler’s home-opener slated for Sept. 8
against Franklin.
