INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Junior defensive back Jayme Szafranski, who has been a top defensive performer for Butler's championship football squad this fall, has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District V football team, chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  His selection makes him a candidate for the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Team.

Szafranski has started all 10 Butler games this fall, and he currently stands second on the team in tackles with 73 stops.  He ranks fourth in the Pioneer Football League in tackles among defensive backs and 14th in the conference overall.  Szafranski was Butler's third-leading tackler a year ago.

A finance major from Barrington, Ill., Safranski has been named to the PFL Academic Honor Roll for two consecutive years.

Szafranski has helped Butler to an 8-2 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in the PFL this season.  The Bulldogs have already clinched a tie for the PFL championship and can grab the title outright with a win in the final regular season game at second place Drake on Saturday, Nov. 10.

The first team honorees from District V, which represents Division I schools from Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ontario and Manitoba, will be considered with All-Academic picks from seven other districts for Academic All-America selection, which will be released later in November.
