Butler Closes Spring Practice With Blue-White Game
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler will close out five weeks of spring football practice with the annual Blue-White Spring Game on Saturday, April 20. The intersquad game will kickoff at 10:30 a.m., at the Butler Bowl, and admission is free.
The Bulldogs' roster has been split into two teams for the spring game, which will be played in four 12-minute quarters. Normal football rules and scoring will apply.
Butler is coming off an 8-3 campaign and a co-championship in the Pioneer Football League. Head Coach Jeff Voris returns 42 letterwinners from that championship squad, including PFL Offensive Player of the Year Matt Lancaster and PFL rushing leader Trae Heeter. Lancaster, in his first season as Butler's starting quarterback, passed for 2,708 yards and 21 touchdowns to lead Butler's offense. Heeter rushed for 1,103 yards and a PFL-high 10 touchdowns.
Head coach Jeff Voris also can call on returning All-PFL performers Jeremy Stephens, Sean Grady, Brendan Shannon, David Tiwari, Charlie Perrecone, Kyle Annis, Glen Somers and Jayme Szafranski. Stephens, a first team all-league defensive lineman, finished second in the league in tackles for loss, while Grady, a first team All-PFL defensive back, ranked third in the league among defensive backs in tackles. Tiwari and Perrecone earned honorable mention All-PFL recognition as offensive linemen, while Annis and Somers earned honorable mention as defensive linemen. Szafranski was an honorable mention all-league defensive back.
The Blue-White Game will be the conclusion of 15 spring practices for the Bulldogs.
Butler will begin fall practice in August in preparation for the team's 2013 season-opener at South Dakota State on August 31. The Bulldogs will play the first of six home games against Wittenberg on Saturday, Sept. 7. at 6 p.m.
