Jayme Szafranski Earns Academic All-District Honors

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Senior Jayme Szafranski, who has helped lead Butler to a first place standing in the Pioneer Football League, has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District V Football Team for the second consecutive year.  The honor squad is chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Szafranski was named to the first team on the District V All-Academic Team a year ago, and he went on to earn second Academic All-America recognition.  The finance major from Barrington, Ill., was a first team Academic All-PFL choice as a junior, and he's been named to the PFL Academic Honor Roll for three straight years.

A starting safety for the Bulldogs, Szafranski currently ranks fifth on the team in tackles, and he's second on the squad in passes defended.  He finished third on the team in tackles in both 2011 and 2012, when he earned honorable mention All-PFL honors.

Szafranski has helped lead the Bulldogs to a 7-3 overall record and a 5-1 mark in league play.  Butler is tied with San Diego and Marist for first place in the PFL, one-half game ahead of Mercer, with two games to play.  The Bulldogs will close out their home season against Valparaiso on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The first team selections from District V, which represents Division I schools from Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio, will be considered with All-Academic picks from seven other districts for Academic All-America selection, which will be announced later in November.
