Tim Cooper joined the Butler football staff an assistant football coach in March, 2010. He serves as a Defensive Coordinator, while working directly with Butler’s linebackers.
Cooper has been part of the coaching staff during one of the best runs in Butler football history. In 2013, he helped to guide the Bulldogs to a 9-4 record, a share of the Pioneer Football League crown and Butler's first appearance in the NCAA Division I Football Championship in 2013. It was Butler’s fourth title as a Division I football program.
Cooper was the defensive secondary coach at Miami (Ohio), 2004-2008, helping the RedHawks to three Mid-American Conference East championship. He previously had served as defensive secondary and linebackers coach at Carroll, 2001-2003, where he worked under current Butler head coach Jeff Voris. Most recently, Cooper served as defensive quality control-secondary at Indiana University.
Cooper began his coaching career as a graduate assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at DePauw University in 1997. He accepted a position assisting with the secondary at the University of Rhode Island in 1999 and then took a graduate assistant position at the University of Connecticut in 2000. Cooper also served one season as a graduate assistant coach at Miami (Ohio) in 2003, helping the RedHawks to a 13-1 record, a Mid-American Conference championship, a berth in the GMAC Bowl and a #10 national ranking.
A three-year defensive starter as a player at DePauw, Cooper earned four varsity letters and helped the Tigers to the 1996 Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference championship. He was the Defensive Most Valuable Player for the 101st Monon Bell Game, and he served as team captain for the 1996 squad, which broke 27 school records and led the NCAA Division III in turnover margin.
Cooper earned a B.A. degree from DePauw in 1997 and a master’s degree from Indiana State University in 1999.
Tim and his wife, Jamie, are parents of a son, Joshua.
