Patrick Doherty was named an assistant football coach at Butler in 2012. He has responsibility for Butler's running backs.
In his first two seasons at Butler, the BUlldogs have ranked as one of the top rushing teams in the Pioneer Football League. Butler finished second in the league in rushing in 2012 and third in the conference in 2013, winning league titles both years. Doherty coached running back Trae Heeter, who led the PFL in rushing in both 2012 and 2013. The Bulldogs set a Butler single season record for rushing with 2,742 yards in 2013.
Prior to joining Butler's staff, Doherty was a student assistant coach at Franklin College. He worked with Franklin’s running backs, tight ends and quarterbacks during his four seasons with the Grizzlies, and he helped the NCAA Division III squad to a four-year 37-9 record, three conference championships and three NCAA playoff appearances.
He earned his degree in K-12 Physical Education and Health from Franklin in May of 2012.
