Butler Opens League Play With 21-15 Win Over Drake

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Rob Blevins scored on a 39-yard interception return and Ryan Hitchcock added a clinching 15-yard touchdown run as Butler beat Drake 21-15 Saturday, snapping a nine-game losing streak in the Pioneer Football League.

The win also ended a three-game slide at home for Butler (3-1, 1-0).

Drake (2-3, 0-2) got two field goals by Logan Rees in the second quarter pulled within 7-6 before the long interception return by Blevins late in the period. Ben Ostermann's 9-yard TD run early in the third quarter again brought Drake back into the game before Butler again countered with the clinching score by Hitchcock late in the period.

The only scoring in the fourth quarter came on a third field goal by Rees.

Ostermann was 15-of-34 for 232 yards passing and was the leading rusher with 70 yards on 14 carries for Drake. Butler's Matt Kobli, who accounted for the game's first touchdown with a 6-yard pass to Dan Bohrer in the opening period, was 12-of-22 for 117 yards. He also was the Bulldogs' top rusher with 50 yards on 11 carries.
