Bulldogs Fall To Davidson In Season-Finale
DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) - Ryan Alexander threw for 244 yards and two touchdown to help host Davidson beat Butler 46-34 in a Pioneer Football League game on Saturday (Nov. 22). It was the final regular season game for both teams.
Kenny Mantuo, who had 90 yards rushing on 16 carries, scored twice for the Wildcats (4-7, 3-5 Pioneer Football League). Andrew Aldrich caught nine passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns.
Davidson took a 21-7 lead in second quarter when Myle Potter threw his only pass of the game for a 39-yard touchdown to Kirk Konert, who finished with seven catches for 100 yards.
Scott Gray scored on a 1-yard run to cut lead to 21-14 in the second for Butler (6-5, 4-4). But the Bulldogs would not pull closer as Alexander connected with Aldrich on a 5-yard passing score in the second and Mantuo added a 1-yard rushing score in the third to put the Wildcats ahead 34-14.
The closest Butler came was when Matt Kobli threw an 11-yard touchdown to Alex White to cut the lead to 40-28 with 9:18 left in the fourth quarter. But Davidson answered with a nine-play, 68-yard drive that was capped by Mantuo's 5-yard rushing score to give the Wildcats a 46-28 lead.
Chad Barnes finished with 55 yards rushing on 16 carries and two touchdowns for Davidson. Justin Williams ran for 72 yards on seven carries.
Kobli, who completed 23 of 33 passes, threw for 308 yards and two touchdowns for Butler. He also led the Bulldogs in rushing with 42 yards on 10 carries. Dan Bohrer caught seven passes for 146 yards. Linebacker Derek Guggenberger topped Butler's defense with eight tackles, while senior Mike Bennett added seven stops.
