Andrew Wegeng Earns Golf Academic Recognition
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler golfer Andrew Wegeng has been a
named 2011-12 Division I Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholar
by the National Golf Coaches Association. The NGCA honored a
total of 146 Division I male golfers for academic excellence.
Wegeng, an economics and mechanical engineering major, had a
break-out season for the Bulldogs in 2011-12. He set a Butler
single season scoring record with a 73.0 average compiled over 29
rounds. He also set a Butler single round record with a 65
(par 70) in the second round of the Butler Fall Invitational.
He had four “Top Five” individual finishes during the
season, including a tie for second place at the 2012 Horizon League
Championship.
The Butler scoring leader was named first team All-Horizon League
and was chosen to the 2012 Horizon League All-Tournament
Team. He also was named to the Horizon League Academic
All-League Team and the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status
and individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in
at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in
70% of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA
Championship, have a stroke-average under 76.0, and maintain a
minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2 (on a 4.00
scale). A recipient must also be of high moral character and
be in good standing at his college or university.
