Andrew Wegeng Grabs Runner-up Finish

GREEN BAY, WIS. -- Senior Andrew Wegeng put together two solid rounds and wound up posting a runner-up finish in the individual competition at the Green Bay Invitational, which wrapped up at Green Bay Country Club on Tuesday (Sept. 11).  Butler finished third in the team race.

Wegeng shot a two-over-par 74 in the opening round and finished the first day of the tournament in a tie for second place.  He came back in the final round with a three-over-par 75 and claimed sole possession of second place with a two-day total of 149.  Dan Ozga of Green Bay shot a tournament-best 71 in the final round and came from three strokes back to take medalist honors with a 147.

Ozga led the tournament with eight birdies, one more than Wegeng.  Butler's scoring leader also finished second in the invitational in both par-four scoring (+3) and par-five scoring (-1).

Butler's duo of sophomore Andrew Eiler and freshman Corbin Sellers tied with Green Bay's Tyler Schmidt for fourth place in the meet, all finishing with a 36-hole total of 154.  Eiler shot rounds of 75 and 79, while Sellers posted an 80 in the first round and a team-best 74 in the final round.

Senior Colin Reenan, who tied for the tournament lead in par-three scoring (E), finished 13th overall with rounds of 79 and 81, while freshman Brigham Stewart came in 15th with rounds of 83 and 84.  Sophomore Clark Etheridge competed as a non-scoring individual and came in 16th with rounds of 89 and 82.

Green Bay's "B" team captured the team title with a 36-hole score of 615, one stroke better than Green Bay's "A" team and two strokes better than Butler.  Chicago State came in fourth.

The Bulldogs will be right back in action this weekend at the Indiana Invitational, Sept. 15-16.
