Andrew Wegeng Named A-10 Golfer of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler senior Andrew Wegeng, who captured medalist honors at the Butler Fall Invitational, has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Golf Player of the Week. He's the first Butler golfer to be honored by the A-10.
Wegeng won the Butler Fall Invitational title for the second consecutive year, finishing with a 36-hole total of two-under-par 138. He was the lone player in the tournament field to finish under par. The defending champ shot a tournament-best 66 in the opening round, missing Butler's par 70 record by a single stroke (he missed a birdie putt on the 18th hole). Wegeng, who finished three strokes ahead of runner-up Cole Adams of IUPUI, then carded a 72 in the final round for his winning total.
The Butler scoring leader topped the tournament in par four scoring (-2), and he tied for second in par five scoring (-1). He also tied for second in the tournament field in total birdies (6).
Butler captured the team title in the six-team event with a two-day total of 570, finishing 12 strokes ahead of runner-up Green Bay.
