Butler Picked Tenth In Atlantic 10 Conference
Senior Andrew Wegeng

According to conference coaches, Butler faces an uphill climb in its first season in the Atlantic 10 Conference.  The Bulldogs were tabbed 10th in the annual preseason men's golf poll, released by the league office.

Charlotte, runner-up in the conference a year ago, was picked as the preseason favorite.  The 49ers, who have won six of the last seven A-10 titles, picked up eight first place votes from conference coaches in the poll.

Xavier was picked second in the poll, followed by Richmond and VCU in a tie for third, Dayton, defending champ George Washington, Temple, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure, Butler, Fordham, La Salle and Saint Joseph's.  VCU picked up two first place votes, while Richmond and George Washington each received one.

Butler returns six golfers from last year's squad, which placed sixth in the Horizon League Championship.  Leading that group is senior Andrew Wegeng, who completed the fall season with a 76.8 average.  Wegeng set a Butler single season record with a 73.0 average in 2011-12.

The 2013 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship will be played at Heron Bay Golf Club in Coral Springs, Fla.  The three-day, 54-hole tournament begins April 26 and will conclude April 28 with an automatic bid to the NCAA men's golf regionals at stake.
