Butler Places 15th At Weibring Intercollegiate
NORMAL, ILL. - Butler opened its 2013 men's fall golf schedule with a 15th place finish at the D. A. Weibring Intercollegiate, hosted by Illinois State University. The two-day, 54-hole tournament wrapped up on Monday, Sept. 16.
Senior Matt Vitale led the Bulldogs and finished in a tie for 33rd overall with a 54-hole score of 222. He carded an opening-round 77 and then came back with a team tournament-best 68 in the second round. Vitale finished with another 77 in the final round on Monday.
Junior Logan Holt tied for 55th in the tournament with rounds of 74, 78 and 76 (228), while junior Andrew Eiler and freshman Joe Arcuri tied for 58th with three-round scores of 229. Eiler opened with a 74, carded a 77 in the second round and finished with a 78, while Arcuri had the team's best first round score with a 73, before closing with rounds of 77 and 79.
Freshman Logan McBride rounded out Butler's five-man team with a score of 236 (76-79-81). Butler finished with a team score of 907.
Loyola claimed the team title with a final score of 868. Nick Willenborg of Loyola and Nick Steffens of Western Illinois wound up in a tie for individual honors with a final score of 214.
The Bulldogs will return to action at the Cleveland State Invitational, Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
