Five former students, including a men’s soccer All-American, have been selected for induction into the Butler University Athletic Hall of Fame. Eleven Bulldogs Earn Academic All-Horizon League Honors
Eleven Butler student-athletes from the fall sports were named Academic All-Horizon League for exceptional performance on the field and in the classroom. Butler had the most academic all-league performers, accounting for 22 percent of the league’s 50 honored student-athletes. The awards are a result of a balloting by the league’s faculty athletic representatives and sports information directors.

Bulldogs Tie Third-Highest Win Total In School History
One year after matching the fourth-highest win total in school history, the Butler men’s soccer team improved its performance. The 2009 Bulldogs became just the fourth team in Butler men’s soccer history to record 14 victories in a season.

Conner Burt Named Horizon League Scholar-Athlete Of The Month
Butler junior Conner Burt, who helped lead the Bulldogs to an NCAA Tournament bid this fall, has been named the U. S. Army Horizon League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month for November. He’s the third consecutive Butler athlete to earn the monthly academic award.

Butler’s Season Ends In NCAA Tournament
Host Indiana found an opening midway through the second half and that proved to be enough for the Hoosiers to hand #12-seeded Butler a 1-0 setback in the second round of the 2009 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship at Armstrong Stadium on Sunday (Nov. 22). The loss ended Butler’s remarkable season at 14-3-2.

Butler junior defender Conner Burt, who has excelled on the field and in the classroom, has been named first team on the 2009 ESPN The Magazine University Division Academic All-America Team, chosen by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). He was one of 12 players selected to the national honor squad.

Butler’s successful men’s soccer season will continue. The Bulldogs received the No. 12 seed and a first-round bye in the 2009 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship, which begins at host sites on Thursday, Nov. 19. The 48-team field was announced on Monday, Nov. 16.

Goalkeeper Ryan Wehking stopped three penalty kicks to lift Green Bay past Butler in the 2009 Horizon League Men’s Soccer Championship match at the Butler Bowl on Sunday, Nov. 15. The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie through two overtime periods, setting up the first penalty kick situation in Horizon League championship match history.

Butler men’s soccer assistant coach Mike Rivas is leaving his position at Butler University to become head soccer coach at Monte Vista Christian High School in Watsonville, Calif. Rivas served on the staff of Butler head coach Kelly Findley for three seasons.
