Two Additional Men's Soccer Recruits Join Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler men’s soccer coach Kelly Findley has added two more prospects to his 2010-11 recruiting class with the signing of Brandon Fricke of Grimes, Iowa, and Joel Zimmerly of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.  The two join a class of six previously signed Butler recruits.
      
Fricke was an All-State selection and team captain at Dallas Center-Grimes High School.  He helped his club team, the Kansas City Wizards, to the U.S. Development Academy in 2009, a 2009 State Cup Championship and a 2008 MRL Championship.  He was a three-time team captain.  Fricke further was a team captain on the Iowa ODP State Team and a member of the ODP Region 2 team.

Zimmerly was a three-time team captain for Shattuck St. Mary’s, helping lead the team to a U.S. Club regional title, the U.S. Club National Finals and a Disney Showcase Championship in 2009.  He won the 2007 Shattuck St. Mary’s Player of the Year Award and the team’s 2008 Leadership Award.  Zimmerly played on the Saskatchewan Provincial Team, 2004-07.

The two are joining Butler’s 2010 class which includes Austin Oldham of Greenwood, Adekunle Oluyedun of Westfield, Jamie Vollmer of Westfield, Adam Glanzer of Harrisburg, S.D., Andy Holte of Iowa City, Iowa, and Adam Tormoehlen of Highland Ranch, Colo.

Butler posted one of the most successful men’s soccer seasons in school history in 2009.  The Bulldogs recorded a 14-3-2 record, a regular season championship in the Horizon League, a “Top 25” national ranking and a berth in the NCAA Tournament in 2009.  Butler, ranked as high as No. 17 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America national poll, advanced to the championship game of Horizon League Tournament, where they wound up with a 0-0 tie against Green Bay.  The team’s 14 wins matched the third-highest victory total in Butler men’s soccer history.
